Our Physicians & Staff NEW

Properly treating mental illness requires a combination of skill and compassion. At the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI), our doctors and staff apply the latest medical knowledge and the best traditions of compassionate medicine to the care of you or your loved one.

All of our doctors are licensed practitioners who are specially trained in diagnosing and treating the full range of psychiatric disorders. After completing their medical school education, our physicians completed a four year residency in psychiatry. Some went further in their training to complete fellowships in subspecialties like child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, consultation psychiatry and sleep medicine.

    Our Therapists

Our licensed mental health therapists work with individuals, families and groups to address and treat a wide range of mental and emotional disorders. They are trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques and work closely with the rest of the mental health team to assess, diagnose and treat mental disorders.

    Our Care Coordinators

Our care coordinators are either social workers or nurses functioning as central to the treatment planning process and act as liaisons between the treatment team, patient, families and the community agencies.  They are prominent in facilitating continuity of care and promoting successful outcomes.  Additionally, as skilled mental health professionals they function as individual, group and family therapists.

    Certified Peer Specialist

Our Certified Peer Specialists are individuals with lived mental health experience who have been trained and certified in the state of Pennsylvania on how to assist others in wellness and recovery . They work with each individual person’s strengths and challenges to help them develop a plan to recovery designed to manage illness and hope for the future.  Additionally, they will assist individuals in increasing community supports outside of the hospital.

“Recovery is a deeply personal, unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, belief, feelings, goals, skills and/or roles.  It is a way of living a satisfying hopeful and contributing life even with limitations caused by the illness.”

    - William Anthony (a person living with mental illness and Director of the Boston Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation)
