Who this Program Treats
The Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Program at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) offers a secure and healing environment for patients age 18 and older. Patients who need to be admitted to the hospital commonly suffer from:
- Depression
- Bipolar disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Schizophrenia
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Substance-related disorders with psychiatric symptoms
- Non-compliance with their medications
Services this Program Offers
Patients who are admitted to this program receive an array of services from an experienced team of board-certified psychiatrists, internal medicine doctors, psychiatric nurses, licensed therapists, care coordinators and behavioral health specialists.
Patients who are admitted to PPI reside on one of two modern units. During their stay patients are immersed in an intensive therapeutic program that runs from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. The majority of the day is filled with group therapy sessions, where patients discuss their issues, set goals, and learn coping skills. Medication management and compliance, as well as illness education and relapse prevention, are important components of the inpatient program.

Our staff members work with each patient in order to support and prepare him or her to move to a less structured environment.
