Our Community
Hospice of Central PA’s vision is a community that embraces specialized care at the end of life with the same importance that is given at the beginning of life. To strengthen this vision in the central Pennsylvania community, HCP offers many free community programs and events:
- We Honor Veterans
- Caregiver Coffee Breaks
- Inspiring Community Conversations: Advance Care Planning
- Community Education
We Honor Veterans
HCP is a Level Five partner in the We Honor Veterans program. We Honor Veterans is a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The program invites organizations like HCP to join a pioneering effort to focus on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgement. Unlike the other levels in the We Honor Veterans program, Level Five partners must reapply for this designation every year. Successful Level Five applicants will have accomplished all of the requirements of the other levels and demonstrate a special commitment to Vietnam veterans and their wellbeing. HCP’s participation in We Honor Veterans is one on the most important components of our programming – providing support to veterans and their families. HCP also partners with local nursing homes and assisted living facilities to provide veteran recognition events. To attend a Salute for Our Veterans event near you, please visit the HCP events page. To schedule a Salute for Our Veterans event at your facility, please reach out to Community Educator, Jeanne McClintick, LPN, CHPLN. To view our 2021 Veteran Resource Flyer, please click here.
Caregiver Coffee Breaks
HCP offers three monthly support groups for caregivers in Dillsburg, Hummelstown and Carlisle. Caregiver Coffee Breaks offer networking and support from other caregivers, opportunities to learn about area resources and a break from your daily caregiving role. For dates and times, please download the Caregiver Coffee Break flyer here.
Inspiring Community Conversations
This free lunch program is designed to start conversations about end-of-life wishes and advance care planning. Conversations will be inspired through a free screening of the documentary “Consider the Conversation” and “Hello!” a surprisingly lighthearted game about living and dying well. To register to attend an Inspiring Community Conversations event near you, please visit the HCP events page.
