Account Director

Summary:

The Account Director acts as a link between clients and the agency. The Account Director is responsible for liaising between the client and other agency staff to coordinate advertising campaigns. Account Director liaise closely with their clients throughout campaigns. The Account Director handles administrative and campaign work, ensuring that this is all completed on-time and in-budget. The Account Director is responsible for adding business with current clients. The Account Director is tasked with supporting and participating in the acquisition of new business.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years’ experience in an advertising/marketing agency
  • Minimum two years’ experience in customer service
  • Self-motivated
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Comfort level with face-to-face/ phone/email communication
  • Able to manage multiple clients at the same time
  • Able to work well under demanding deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, business, or related field
  • Five plus years’ experience in customer service
  • More than five years’ experience in an advertising/marketing agency
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proven track record in networking and external sales

Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Relations
  • Communicating directly with clients (telephone, email, in-person)
  • Meeting and liaising with clients to discuss and identify their advertising requirements
  • Working with agency colleagues to devise an advertising campaign that meets the client’s creative brief and budget
  • Liaising with, and acting as the link between, the client and advertising agency by maintaining regular contact with both, ensuring that communication flows effectively
  • Presenting, alongside agency colleagues, the campaign media proposals, creative ideas, and budgets to clients
  • Presenting proposals, along with other agency staff, to obtain new business for the agency
  • Conducting an on-going new business effort to include, but not limited to, agency self-promotion campaigns, cold calls, networking at business events and volunteer organizations
  • Working in tandem with Media Director to lead clients’ campaign advertising strategies and monitoring the success of each campaign
  • Negotiating contracts and fees for new and existing clients
  • With an understanding of client objectives, preparing short-term and long-term goals
  • Conducting and/or participating in annual client audits
Supervision
  • Overseeing the work performance of Account Coordinators
  • Supervising and managing Account Coordinators’ adherence to individual job descriptions
  • Supervising and managing Account Coordinators’ performance as it is measured against the Martin Communications (MC) Culture Statement
  • Conducting on-going training for Account Coordinators
  • Implementing the performance appraisal system with supervised staff including quarterly goal review meetings
  • Conducting performance appraisals in conjunction with the President
  • Documenting performance that may lead to promotion (financial and/or title), demotion, discipline, or dismissal
  • Providing support and oversight for the appropriate staff in order for the necessary projects to be accomplished successfully and for staff to be adequately valued and motivated
Creative
  • Participating in creative concept development
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of creative and subcontractor capabilities
  • Providing creative suggestions
Media
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of campaigns in concert with the Media Director
  • Collaborating with clients and agency staff regarding campaign details
  • Working with agency colleagues to devise advertising campaigns that meet the client’s creative brief and budget
  • Working with the Account Coordinators to brief media, creative, and research staff, and assisting with the formulation of marketing strategies
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of media opportunities, through the Media Department
  • Maintaining a detailed knowledge of relevant market trends affecting the accounts and developments in the wider advertising and communications industry
Administrative
  • Ultimately responsible for managing client deadlines including the daily tracking of internal progress, in order that all client deadlines are met, in conjunction with the Production Coordinator and Media Department
  • In coordination with Account Coordinators and other support staff:
    • Developing client proposals
    • Overseeing client meeting preparation
    • Overseeing that client agendas are updated
    • Writing client reports
  • Maintaining and managing budgets and detailed campaign costs for clients with ultimate responsibility for maintaining budget ceiling
  • Proofreading accurately and consistently
  • Answer phone calls as needed
  • Respond to email as needed

Work Environment:

Employee must be able to:
  • Sit at desk and look at a computer screen for several hours at a time on a regular basis
  • Travel as necessary in order to perform the essential functions of the position
